New Westerly Wave Enters Pakistan: Rain and Snowfall Alert Issued Across the Country

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather alert as a new westerly weather system has entered the country. This system is expected to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall in the northern regions from February 1st to February 3rd, 2026.

Regional Forecast Breakdown:

Northern Areas & KP: Heavy snowfall and rain are predicted for Murree, Galiyat, Swat, Abbottabad, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Landslide warnings have been issued for mountainous tracks.

Islamabad & Potohar: The capital city and surrounding areas like Rawalpindi, Sialkot, and Gujrat are expected to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by cold winds.

Balochistan: A sharp drop in temperature is expected in Quetta and Ziarat, with chances of rain and snowfall over the hills.

Punjab & Sindh: While upper Punjab will see rain, central and southern parts, including Lahore and Karachi, will experience intensified cold waves and dense morning fog, reducing visibility on motorways.

Safety Advisory: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to hilly areas due to slippery road conditions and potential landslides. Emergency control rooms have been put on 24-hour alert to handle any untoward situations.
